ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Market Analysis

Why Use ChatGPT for Market Research?

ChatGPT can’t predict prices, but it’s excellent at:

  • Structuring your analysis — force yourself to think systematically
  • Summarizing data — digest long reports, whitepapers, and threads
  • Playing devil’s advocate — challenge your own thesis
  • Generating checklists — never miss a key factor before entering a trade

The Daily Market Review Prompt

Use this every morning to structure your analysis:

You are a crypto market analyst. Given the following data, provide
a structured daily market review:

- BTC price: [current price]
- 24h change: [change %]
- BTC dominance: [dominance %]
- Fear & Greed Index: [score]
- Key events today: [list any known events]

Structure your analysis as:
1. Market sentiment (1 paragraph)
2. Key levels to watch (support/resistance)
3. Sector rotation observations
4. Risk factors
5. Trading opportunities (if any)

Be concise. No fluff. Acknowledge uncertainty.

The Trade Thesis Checker

Before entering any trade, run your thesis through this prompt:

I'm considering the following trade:

- Asset: [token]
- Direction: [long/short]
- Entry: [price]
- Target: [price]
- Stop loss: [price]
- Thesis: [your reasoning]

Please:
1. List 3 reasons this trade could work
2. List 3 reasons this trade could fail
3. Identify what I might be missing
4. Rate the risk/reward on a scale of 1-10
5. Suggest one modification to improve the setup

The Whitepaper Digest Prompt

Save hours of reading:

Summarize this crypto project whitepaper in a structured format:

[paste whitepaper text or key sections]

Provide:
1. One-sentence summary
2. Problem being solved
3. Technical approach (simplified)
4. Token utility and value accrual
5. Team and funding (if mentioned)
6. Key risks and red flags
7. Comparison to competitors
8. Your assessment: is this worth deeper research? Why or why not?

The On-Chain Data Interpreter

Here is on-chain data for [token]:

- Active addresses (7d): [number]
- Transaction volume (7d): [number]
- Exchange inflows/outflows: [data]
- Top holder changes: [data]

Interpret this data:
1. What does the address activity suggest about adoption?
2. Are exchange flows bullish or bearish?
3. Any whale accumulation/distribution signals?
4. Overall on-chain sentiment: bullish / neutral / bearish?

Building Your Research Workflow

Here’s a suggested daily routine:

  1. Morning (10 min): Run the Daily Market Review prompt
  2. Before any trade: Run the Trade Thesis Checker
  3. Weekly (30 min): Deep dive into one new project with the Whitepaper Digest
  4. As needed: Interpret on-chain data when something unusual happens

Important Caveats

  • ChatGPT doesn’t have real-time data — you need to feed it current numbers (try CoinGecko for market data)
  • Never use AI output as your sole trading decision
  • The AI will always try to be helpful — it won’t tell you “don’t trade today” often enough
  • Combine AI analysis with your own chart reading and risk management
